NHS Treatments at Bloxdent Smiles

Bloxdent Smiles is proud to be a provider of quality NHS dental care to the local community.

We offer a full range of NHS dental treatments. NHS care is grouped into three price bands, which are set nationally by the Department of Health. Below are the latest charges, effective from 1st April 2025.

Band 1 – £27.90

This includes your check-up, a scale and polish (if clinically needed), and any X-rays.
Example: If you come in for an examination and an X-ray, that would be Band 1 – so you’ll pay just £27.40

Band 2 – £76.60

This band covers everything in Band 1, plus treatments like fillings or tooth extractions.
Example: If you need a check-up, X-ray and a filling, the total cost is £75.30 – even if more than one filling is needed during the same course of treatment.

Band 3 – £332.10 from April 26

This includes everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus more advanced work such as crowns, dentures, or bridges.
Example: If you need a check-up, X-ray and a crown or denture, the cost will be £326.70.

Your dentist will discuss your treatment needs with you. It may not always be appropriate to carry out all the treatment you require on one course of treatment. This would be the case if you need a lot of treatment. This will be phased appropriately to ensure your dental and gum health is stabilised before moving on to more advanced treatments such as crowns.

Free NHS Treatment

You may qualify for free NHS dental treatment if:

  • You’re under 18
  • You’re 18 and in full-time education
  • You’re pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months
  • You receive certain low-income benefits

Just bring along proof of your exemption – we’re happy to help you check if you’re not sure.

Combining NHS and Private Treatment

You’re welcome to mix NHS and private treatments as part of the same course of care. We’ll always provide a clear, detailed estimate so you know all your options in advance.

A Note on capacity and dentist availability

As NHS providers of dental care since 1996, we are passionate about providing dental access to our communities. Our books are very full however and we have a long waiting list for patients joining the practice for NHS care.

We work closely with our local NHS health Integrated Care Board (ICB) and provide NHS access and emergency sessions for patients. We have allocated appointments for dental emergency and stabilisation sessions to support patients who need them, however these are allocated subject to our capacity.

Each of our dentists is contracted to carry out a set amount of NHS work. That means NHS appointments may not always be available with every dentist at all times. We will do our best to accommodate your preferred dentist or appointment time. If needed, private treatment may be available sooner.

A Full Range of Care

NHS treatment covers all that is necessary to maintain your oral health and dental function. However, there are a number of cosmetic options that are not available on the NHS. We are pleased to be able to also offer a wide selection of private treatments to suit your needs and your dentist will be happy to discuss these with you.
